All lifts are not the same and are not suitable for all projects. Thus, choose your beam lift with care to ensure a safe, positive experience.
Determine If Attachments Are Needed
When planning out your project and your use of a beam lift, decide whether or not you will need to use any attachments with the lift. Depending on the type of lifting you're doing, you may need to use a sling, clamp, or other attachment alongside your beam lift. For example, additional support may be needed when attempting to lift very bulky or oddly-shaped loads.
If you do ultimately need to use an attachment, know what specific one you will use ahead of time. That way, you can ensure that the beam lift you ultimately choose is compatible with the attachments you need. You should never force an attachment or accessory to work with an incompatible lift.
Consider Weight Capacity Carefully
In addition to choosing the right attachments when necessary, know the exact weight capacity of the crane that you will use with the beam lift. Going over this capacity can be extremely dangerous and can easily lead to dropped loads and damaged equipment as well.
Remember that you have to know the weight of the beam lift itself and add that weight to the weight of your load. Do not estimate when determining weights.
Know How Much Headroom You Have Available
One of the main reasons to use a lifting beam is because it can reduce the amount of overhead room or headroom that is necessary. However, some headroom will still be required when working in indoor or otherwise confined spaces.
Thus, do be aware of how much headroom you have to work with in your space versus how much headroom each specific beam lift needs to operate safely and correctly. This is another area in which you cannot estimate or guess.
